Center Stage has one of the most respected competition teams in Ohio. We offer three levels of competition: Company, Elite, and Pre-Professional. These levels dictate how many regional competitions and conventions the students attend each season, which includes three regional competitions, up to two convention/competitions, and one national competition every other summer. Our competitive team requires dancers to make a larger commitment to their dance training. Ballet and Body Placement classes become mandatory at the competition level for any student dancing in our Jazz, Lyrical, or Contemporary group routines. Dancers in competition typically spend more hours at the studio every week than our Recreational and Prep Team dancers. We truly believe that becoming a competition dancer helps put students on track for success and a faster pace of progress.
We begin each dance year with our Summer Company Camp. Dancers will come one or two days per week through the month of July and take classes in every style of dance. Throughout these four weeks, our teachers will observe each student in class and determine the appropriate group dance(s) for that individual student based on level and age. Dancers will turn in an audition form in which they detail the number of group dances they would like to be considered for, as well as what styles they would like to dance in. After a week of Company auditions, group dances are created and competition dancers start to learn their new in the month of August and will continue to work on these routines until January. After group routines are finished and clean, we spend the remaining months of the year working on style, technique, confidence, and going over judges’ critiques from competitions.
Our competition dancers also attend conventions and master classes throughout the season, which gives them a chance to take from some of the best teachers and choreographers in the industry. They can make connections and relationships with these teachers, which will give them an advantage in the dance industry after high school if they wish to continue onto a dance career. Our faculty can also offer an abundance of knowledge and advice for dancers to help prepare them for any college dance audition. Our students are constantly challenged through new choreography, being taught proper dance technique, and working on improvisational skills. Through this process, they gain a new appreciation and love for the art of dance.
Find Out More about our Three Levels of Competition:
Our Company program is meant for experienced dancers looking to perform on stage and work as a group to reach new heights. Being a Company dancer is committing to all other dancers on our team. Hard work and attendance are very important factors when competing for Center Stage. Our Company program is ideal for our younger dancers as well as our older dancers who may be unable to make a larger commitment to dance because of other sports/activities. It is also the most financially viable option for many families.

Our Elite Company program is meant for experienced competition dancers who are looking to push themselves and progress at a faster pace. These dancers will partake in exclusive Pre-Pro master classes in a multitude of styles outside of their regular dance classes. They will have seminars on college dance programs, learn about the various dance industries, including the commercial, concert, and musical theater industries, as well as gain information on injury prevention, healthy nutrition, resume building, and much more! This group of dancers will have many of their group pieces choreographed by outside choreographers and get the chance to work closely with some of the best teachers/choreographers in the country. A select number of dancers will be granted the honor of being a part of this program.
